The Moralized Bible held by the JPMorgan Library - all 8 faces are sumptuous. http://ica.themorgan.org/manuscript/page/8/77422
A research paper on passing posted on line by the Brooklyn Library. I imagine there’s significant scholarly effort being devoted, currently, to this increasingly discussed topic. This may not be the best paper in existence but I found it interesting in its conclusions (pp37-39) and it has lots of references to follow through with, for anyone wanting more. https://www.nber.org/system/files/working_papers/w20828/w20828.pdf
And back to Belle, an account of just one event confirming her curatorial brilliance and the significance of her curatorial contribution. The event might yet turn out to be covered in the 3rd section of the book, but I reckon that the photo of Belle in this article is worth seeing now - this isn’t a photo I’ve seen elsewhere online. https://www.laphamsquarterly.org/roundtable/forged-lives
I forgot to mention the David Bowie connection in the book. He's mentioned in the party sequence with specific reference to his admiring comments about Hitler. And of course the book title is in his lyrics "scary monsters, super creeps...". What do people make of that?
Turns out The Green Hat was a novel before it was a play. I think Kate Atkinson is strongly hinting at a source of inspiration if the goodreads reviews are anything to go on. The protagonist drives a Hispano-Suiza, there are disappearing women and night club owners -https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4689587-the-green-hat

DeleteI think the Bowie thing also gives you a Weimar vibe. Makes me think of the decadence aesthetic that in my mind connects those two eras
